Prof. Ramesh K. Kothari was awarded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Travel Award for Scientists from Low- and Lower-Middle-Income Countries in 2021. The award supported his participation in the World Microbe Forum, held digitally from June 20–24, 2021, a joint event organized by ASM Microbe 2021 and FEMS 2021.
